VoiceInput vs Typeless

Short answer: Both turn speech into text and tidy it with AI. If you only use a Mac and want an engine that works offline plus Chinese-aware typography, pick VoiceInput. If you need a phone, Windows or team billing, pick Typeless.

The short version

Typeless is a cross-platform AI voice typing tool that turns rough dictation into clean writing. VoiceInput is a macOS menu bar app: hold Right Option, speak, release, and the text lands at the cursor. Its recognition engine can run fully offline, and what you said is stored on your Mac where you can search it. Below we compare only what we could verify, checked 2026-10-13.

FAQ

How do the free plans differ?

They are limited in different ways. VoiceInput local engines are unlimited, VoiceInput Cloud recognition gives 60 minutes a month, cloud AI Tidy gives 50 uses a day, and AI Tidy with your own API key is not metered. Typeless says its free plan has limited words each week; the page gives no number, so we did not verify one.

Does Typeless support Chinese?

Unverified. Typeless says it supports 100+ languages and lets you mix them, but its pages do not name Chinese and we have not tested its Chinese accuracy. The reliable test is to say the same sentences with your own accent in both apps.

I need Windows or a phone too. Which one?

Typeless. Its site lists macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. VoiceInput has a Mac version and an iPhone version (a separate keyboard app with different features) but nothing for Windows or Linux; this page compares the Mac version only.
